Which goes to show that we need a few iron willed dictators in the world for things to be kept running smoothly.

Well, iron willed dictators require strong leaders to counter them.  This generally weeds out the politically paralyzed limp wrists for people who will actually fight for something.  Who replaced Chamberlain when Hitler started his rampage?  Churchill.  Who was elected once Roosevelt died?  Eisenhower (Truman wasn't elected).  Who stepped up when Russia was aggressive in the 80's?  Reagan.  A strong enemy breeds strong national leadership.  The weak leaders we have now are a result of the complacency the West has been lulled into since the Cold War ended.  Not even terrorist attacks can wake us up to the fact that the political bickering has made us our own worst enemy right now.

First of all, Chamberlain gets a bad rap unjustly. You know what he did after the treaty of Munich was signed? He built. He enlisted. He prepared for an inevitability that the current Britain was not ready for.

Second of all, that does not prove we need iron willed dictators, just shows we might have to put up with a few leaders. Churchill outstayed his welcome in office, even after winning World War freaking 2! In Britain! Where the war was happening! And Reagen kind of has the end of the Cold War and only that to his credit, aside from a folksy demeanor and something about Jellybeans I never fully understood. Undeclared wars in South America, trickle down, a nonsensical campaign against anal sex and anything Ed Meese was tossed under the bus for, which was a lot.

Third of all, I'm not really prepared to defend the words of William S. Burroughs, I don't agree with half or any of it. Merely wanted to show you a neat little film I first saw in my teenage years, back when I was into mid-1900's American freakout literature. (Thompson, Kerouac and the like).

I erase your view of history and pencil it in with mine!  But I aknowledge that a political debate was not the point of your post.  But I leave you with this!  Without strife between nations, there can only be strife within nations!

And strife within nations usually leads to social progress, especially in America's case.

The majority of the social progress in the United States occured before the Reagan presidency.  The gains in socil parity made by minorities meant that only pockets of overt racism still existed and could just as often be exhibited by the minorities as by whites.  Women had opened up their frontiers into nearly every area that men used to claim sole dominion to.  Besides the election of Obama, what major hurdles have minorities or women had placed in front of them or have lept over?  All I see now is bickering, finger pointing, racial pandering, and none of the harmony that the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement desired.

Without someplace else to turn our anger, we make enemies out of the blacks, the whites, the immigrants, the rich, the liberals, the conservatives, and any other group one could conceive holding a beef with.  In fact, I would say that we spend more time picking fights over nits then we do getting productive things done.  We have nobody else to focus our aggression on but each other.  It's basic human nature.  If somebody doesn't have an enemy, they go out and make one.

Still the gay marriage thing, and the bickering and niggling interest groups are mere white noise. Nothing to start a war over.

Who has a funny video?

Not particularly funny, but I rather like [ulr=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7xMvTsVpqU]this video.[/url]

This one, on the other hand, is amusing.
